Uniform

School Uniform

We encourage the wearing of clothing which is suitable for the wide range of activities asked of the children during the day. Our school uniform is based upon royal blue/grey/white and sweatshirts and polo shirts overprinted with the school logo are available from the school office. A selection of second hand items is often available at nominal cost.

In addition to these, hats of varying type, full-zip fleeces, P.E. kit and P.E. bags are available for purchase from the Office. Current prices can be found in appendix 3.

Extremes of fashion are to be avoided and clothes made from denim or loudly patterned materials are not encouraged. Footwear should be sensible dark coloured shoes or black trainers.

We ask parents to help us by ensuring that items of jewellery are not worn to school.  Exceptions to this rule are watches and studs/sleepers for those children with pierced ears (one stud/sleeper per ear in the conventional lobe position). No responsibility can be taken for the custody of these items when they are necessarily removed for PE.

School Meals

School Meals and breaktime snacks

There are three Lunchtime options available:

..the children may go home at the end of the morning session, returning to School no earlier than 1.10 p.m.

..the children may stay for a packed lunch which is sent from home.  This should contain a savoury item and dessert, together with a non-fizzy drink or cup for water if desired. Please do not enclose 'sweets' in this meal.  Please ensure that you provide spoons/straws or any other implement to assist in the correct eating of the food and that all items are clearly named.

..the children may stay for a school lunch.  The cost for each meal, which includes a dessert will be £1.90 from 1st September 2008.  Payment should be made weekly in advance  - and money or cheque (made payable to CCC – Bury Primary) brought to School in a named envelope on a Monday morning marked with the days to which the payment relates. In cases where a one-off meal is required we will accept payment on the day. Money pocket envelopes are available to purchase from the office @ £1 per 25.

If you feel that you may be eligible for assistance towards the payment of meals, relevant forms are available from the School Office. Any requests for such support are treated in the strictest confidence.

At breaktime water is readily available, and so the bringing of playtime drinks is unnecessary, although a container is useful. Children in Reception and Years 1 & 2 are provided daily with fruit or vegetables for their morning break. In the interests of dental care sweets are not permitted.

Being a Church School and Collective Worship

Bury Church School – What is a Church School ?

The following is an extract from the National Society's publication entitled, "What is a Church School ?"

"A Church School is a school maintained by the Local Authority on the same footing as any County  school - but Aided Church schools are different from Community schools in some important ways:

The religious teaching is in accordance with the Trust Deed.

It is linked with the Parish Church , so that the children may worship in Church as a normal part of their school life.

The teachers are appointed because they accept the religious purpose of the school, as well as for their professional qualifications.

Church schools are not meant only for children of practising Anglican parents! Of course, Church parents must be able to have their children educated in a Church school if they so choose, and those responsible for running them will see that in every way they are as  efficient as the best Community school.  But there are as many children to be found in Church schools whose parents profess another faith than our own, or who have no faith at all.  We welcome this and take care not to disturb the religious loyalty of such children.  Our aim is to educate children in a happy atmosphere so that when they grow up they may have standards by which to evaluate the world around them.

Church schools are not in competition with Community schools, but are partners with them in the service of children.

Assembly and Collective Worship

Assembly is when the school meets together as a “family” and within this meeting there is always a corporate act of worship. It varies in format and content (sometimes being held as a whole school, and sometimes in year or Key stage groups) and reflects current issues as well as Biblical teaching. It should be found acceptable by all denominations but parents do have the right to withdraw their children from this activity (and R.E.) if they feel that attendance is contrary to their own beliefs.

Admissions

Admissions

Parents of pre-school children who live in Bury, or those who live in the surrounding towns or villages and who wish their child to attend a Church School , may request that their child be placed on the Future Admissions Register at any time by contacting the School Office.

Children who become five during the following academic year are admitted to the Foundation class during the first part of the Autumn Term.  Entry is on a part-time basis for three weeks, becoming full-time from approximately the end of September. Entry arrangements will be fully discussed between the Parents, Foundation Year Teacher and Headteacher in advance of admission.

Bury Primary School primarily serves the catchment area of the Parish of Bury, but also welcomes applicants from further afield on religious grounds.

The Governing Body of Bury School is the admission authority for the School.  The Governing Body sets and applies the admissions policy for the School.  All decisions regarding the admission of children into the School are made by a sub-committee of the Governing Body.

Our school aims to be an inclusive school. We hope to make all our children welcome and feel happy to look forward to their school day. Every child is different and we view differences as an opportunity for adults and children alike to learn more about ourselves.

Full details about Admissions can be found in the Prospectus - please follow the link on the left had side to School Documents and Policies.

The Governors

The Governors

In addition to the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school and parents there is a very important third group involved in the life of the school.  Every aspect of the life and conduct of the school is overseen by the Governors.

The Governing Body has a general responsibility for the effective management of the school.  This includes establishing, with the Headteacher, the aims and policies of the school, ensuring the National Curriculum is provided, ensuring Religious Education is provided, the setting and control of the school budget and supporting and appointing the Headteacher and other staff.

The Governing Body is made up of representatives of the local church, parent elected members and staff representative members.  As well as attending formal meetings the Governors spend much time in school meeting and working with staff and children.  They are always pleased and ready to talk to parents.

Friends of Bury School

FoBS

We are fortunate to have a very lively and committed group of friends – FoBS.

The aims of the School Association, as laid down in its constitution, are to advance the education of the pupils and extend relationships between staff, parents and the community of Bury as a whole.  The Association is also very involved in fund-raising activities which enrich the school with those extra resources we would not otherwise be able to afford.  All parents and guardians of children at the school are deemed to be members of the School Association.
